Why is water leaking from my group head?
If water drips or flows from the group head when you engage steam (either to heat water or to cool the boiler), the most common cause is a blocked steam wand nozzle. With steam unable to escape through the wand, internal pressure pushes water out of the nearest opening — the group head.
Fix in two steps:
- Unscrew the steam wand tip (hand-tight, no tool needed on most HiBrew models) and rinse it under warm water.
- Use a pin or a fine paperclip to clear any mineral buildup in the tiny steam hole.
Screw the tip back on, heat the machine to steam temperature, and try again. The leak from the group head should stop.
